Meet Sam

Sam Chase is a lifelong champion for affordable housing, climate-friendly transportation, clean air and water, parks and nature, jobs, and building a culture of equity and inclusion that drives good governance

For Sam, the need for affordable housing and services for the vulnerable is personal as well as a professional commitment. As a teenager, Sam lost his father to mental illness and drug addiction. Sam believes that everyone should have the support they need to succeed in life – like affordable housing, healthcare, jobs, and clean air and water. 

Sam lives in Northeast Portland with his partner, their 4 children, dog and cat. He received his B.A. from Pitzer College of the Claremont Colleges.

Sam’s experience includes:

Metro Councilor, District 5.

Chief of Staff to Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish, and Housing Policy Advisor for Portland City Commissioner Gretchen Kafoury.

Executive Director of the Coalition of Community Health Clinics, the Community Development Network, and the Clackamas Community Land Trust. 

He has served on the boards of the Northwest District Association, Housing Development Center, Proud Ground, and the Coalition for a Livable Future; as well as the Oregon League of Conservation Voters - Multnomah Chapter.
